Arizona State Rabbit & Cavy Breeders Association (ASRCBA) Youth Royalty Contest PURPOSE: To Acknowledge excellence among ASRCBA youth member in attendance at the State Convention and Show. To allow these members to demonstrate a working knowledge of the rabbit and cavy industry. To explore critical thinking skills, demonstrate personal initiative and provide problem-solving, decision-making and goal-setting activities for these youth ELIGIBILITY: Applicant must be a current member of the ASRCBA at the time of entry and participation. The age requirements and divisions are as follows: (age is the youth’s age on the first day of the ASRCBA State Convention. Applicants must be in attendance at the ASRCBA State Convention and Show February 16 - 17, 2008 in Casa Grande, AZ RULES: 1. Applicants agree to be available and complete all events scheduled. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. 2. Application must be made using the form provided by the ASRCBA. This form is available from ASRCBA Vice President or from the state club website. http://www.azrcba.org 3. While at the state convention and show, contestants are the responsibility of their parents or chaperones. The chaperone must be of legal age. 4. Up to five pages, printed on one side only, of information may be submitted by the applicant. There will be 30 points deducted for not following this rule. Include information needed to complete the answers. Visual aids may be included within this page limitation. 5. Include your name and ASRCBA membership number at the top of each page of information submitted. Check with the club secretary for your membership number. There will be 10 points deducted for not following this rule. 6. The sum of the scores from the application, written test, interview, identification, judging contests and skill-a-thon will determine the winners. All 6 areas will have equal weight for scoring point totals. 7. Winners will be announced at the ASRCBA Banquet at the State Convention and Show. Plan on attending! 8. Send your original Royalty Written Application Direction Form, a single copy of your answer to Question #15 and THREE(3) copies of your answers to questions #0 through #14! Also enclose a portrait photo of yourself (see rule #9). There will be 20 points deducted for not following this rule. 9. Royalty applications must be accompanied by a $5.00 (five dollar) application fee to be complete. Make checks payable to ASRCBA. This photo will be used in a display of royalty contestants at the ASRCBA Convention and Show. This photo will also be used in state newsletter if you are a Royalty winner. On the back of the photo write your Royalty age group, name, city and state. Send photos no larger than 3 x 5 inches. This photo is part of your application. Failure to include a proper photograph will result in a 10 point deduction. Application and photo become the property of the ASRCBA and may not be returned. Applications must be received by February 1, 2007. Forms arriving after the deadlines will have 20 points deducted. DATES & PROCEDURES Sat Saturday, February 16, 2008 - Each contestant in the King, Queen, Duke, Dutchess, Prince and Princess divisions will judge 4 classes of 4 animals per class. This is a timed event of 7 minutes per class. Placements will be made on special forms provided. The use of the ARBA Standard of Perfection at the judging table is encouraged. Contestants may also bring blank paper with them. No other aids will be allowed. Saturday, February 16, 2008.- Each youth contestant will compete in a breed identification contest. Contestants will be required to identify both rabbits and cavies, listing the complete breed name as printed in the ARBA Standard of Perfection. They will also identify the showroom variety, whether a 4 class or 6 class breed, and the registration variety of each of the animals. No abbreviations will be accepted. Saturday, February 16, 2008 - All contestants will take a written test at the convention. The questions for this test will be taken from the ARBA Official Guidebook, the ARBA Yearbook, the ARBA Standard of Perfection, the ARBA Domestic Rabbit Guide, is of Domestic Rabbits from January/February 2001 to present, and the ARBA Website. Lord and Lady contestants will be provided help in reading their test. Test answers will be recorded on sheets provided by ASRCBA. Utmost care will be needed to assure the correct recording of answers for accurate scoring. Saturday, February 16, 2008 - All contestants will participate in a skill-a-thon at the convention. Potential skill-a-thons may included completing a pedigree, tattooing or tagging a rabbit or cavy, executing a keep/cull class, etc. There will be five activities. Points will be awarded on the basis of how the participant completes each activity. This may include set-up, clean-up and neatness, etc. Saturday, February 16, 2008 - All contestants may be interviewed at the convention. Contestants in the Lord and Lady contest will need a rabbit or cavy during their interview, an animal handling/judging score (not showmanship) will be made at this time. Contestants for interviews should be in proper showroom attire with a show coat or, at minimum a long sleeve white shirt.These items should be in the application packet you send in: 1) A completed Royalty Written Application Direction Form, including your signature and your parent/guardian’s signature. 2) Three(3) copies of your answers to the form’s questions #0 through #14. 3) One copy of your answer to question #15. This will be printed in state newsletter if you are a winner. Everyone will read it, so make it a good reflection of what you wish to say. 4) One photograph of yourself with your Royalty age division, name, resident city and state printed on the back. The photograph will be displayed in the Youth booth at the state convention, and will be published in state newsletter if your are a winner. The ASRCBA considers the entrants and participants in this Royalty Contest to be our “Best & Brightest” for the continued strength and growth of our organization. Mauna Loa Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85053 ASRCBA YOUTH MANAGEMENT CONTEST RULES PURPOSE: To acknowledge excellence of management by ASRCBA youth members in the areas of housing, equipment, feeding and animal care, disease control, record keeping, breeding and genetics for the care and production of rabbits and/or cavies. 1. Any ASRCBA member is eligible to compete. Attendance at the State Convention is not necessary. 2. A member may win a division only once. 3. An entry fee of $5.00 must accompany this application. The fee is waived if the member is participating in the Royalty Contest. 4. Application may be made by: · Providing your name, address, phone number, email address, age, birth date, number of holes in your rabbitry/caviary. · Answers to the following questions: A. Describe how your rabbitry /caviary is set up? Why did you decide to set up your system in this manner? Be sure to include number of cages and cage sizes. B. Describe your feeding and watering system and why you use these systems. Include problems you have had and how you have overcome them. What type of equipment do you use, be specific. C. How do you prevent disease from entering your rabbitry/caviary? When you see a sick rabbit/cavy what do you do? D. Please describe your record keeping system. Make sure you include identification, process and performance records. Be specific. E. Describe your breeding program and how you use genetics in determining which animals to breed together. 5. Winners will be selected in the following categories: Less than 10 holes, 11 to 50 holes, and 51 or more holes. All rabbit and cavy management applications will be judged together, regardless of the number of holes. 6. All information is to be provided and written by the contestant. 7. No more than three(3) pages, one side, 12 point type preferred, with .75inch margins. There will be a 10 point deduction for longer applications. 8. Winners will be announced at the ASRCBA State Convention Banquet. 9. Send three(3) copies of your application to Gina Layton, 3720 W. Mauna Loa Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85053. There will be a 20 point deduction for no or not enough copies. Include verification of your ASRCBA membership. 10. Applications must be received by January 18, 2008. Scoring will be as follows: Management Methods 20 points Management Procedures 20 points Record Keeping 20 points Clarity &Thoroughness of Answers 15 points Neatness & Appearance of Applicant 5 points Total : 100 points ASRCBA 2008 YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT CONTEST PURPOSE: To acknowledge outstanding achievement and leadership by ASRCBA youth members in the rabbit and/or cavy industry, as measured by activities and leadership in organizations and associations, performance at the show table, achievements in breeding and raising animals and the vision and goals set for themselves and their project. RULES: 1. Any ASRCBA youth member is eligible to compete. Attendance at the State Convention is not necessary. 2. Application must be made using the form provided by the ASRCBA. This form is available from ASRCBA Vice President or from the state club website http://www.azrcba.org 3. Applications will be judged by age division. The age divisions will be as follows: Up to 12 years of age, 12 - 14 years of age, 15 - 18 years of age. Age is determined by the contestant’s age on February 16, 2008 4. State winners will be selected in each age division. 5. Applications are to be composed and completed by the contestants. 6. Up to five (5) pages of 12 point type, with margins of .75 (¾ inch) printed on one side only of information may be submitted by the applicant. There will be 30 points deducted for not following this rule. Include information needed to complete the answers. Visual aids may be included within this page limitation. 7. Include your name and ARBA membership number at the top of each page of information submitted. There will be 10 points deducted for not following this rule. 8. Winners will be announced at the banquet at State Convention and Show. Contestants need not be present to win. 9. Send your original Achievement Application Direction Form and three(3) copies of your answers. There will be 20 points deducted for not following this rule. 10. Applications must be received by January 18, 2008 not postmarked. Forms received after the deadline will have 20 points deducted. 11. Each application must be accompanied by a $5.00 application fee.
